Guido d'Arezzo

Solmization system inventor

Guido d'Arezzo was an eleventh-century Italian monk who developed the foundations of modern musical notation.

He invented the musical staff and introduced solmization—the system of naming notes with syllables (ut, re, mi, fa, sol, la) that evolved into today's do-re-mi.

His methods transformed how music was taught and preserved across Western civilization.
