Gateshead
Newcastle's river neighbor
Gateshead is a town in northeast England, on the south bank of the River Tyne directly opposite Newcastle.
The two cities are connected by iconic bridges and function as a single metropolitan area, though Gateshead has historically been the less prominent partner: We crossed from Newcastle into Gateshead.
The town is known for the Sage Gateshead concert hall and the Angel of the North sculpture.
