Fenton reaction
Iron-catalyzed peroxide decomposition
The Fenton reaction is a chemical process in which hydrogen peroxide reacts with iron salts to produce highly reactive hydroxyl radicals.
These radicals are powerful oxidizers, making the reaction useful in wastewater treatment and organic synthesis.
The reaction is named for British chemist Henry John Horstman Fenton, who described it in the 1890s.
