DNA vaccine

Gene-based inoculation method

A DNA vaccine is a vaccine that works by introducing genetic material—specifically, DNA encoding a protein from a pathogen—into cells, prompting the body to produce that protein and mount an immune response.

Unlike traditional vaccines that use weakened viruses or protein fragments, DNA vaccines teach cells to manufacture the target antigen themselves.

Researchers are developing DNA vaccines for diseases that have resisted conventional approaches.
