Casparian strip
Root's waxy checkpoint
A Casparian strip is a band of waxy, waterproof material in the cell walls of plant root tissue.
It forces water and dissolved minerals to pass through cell membranes rather than flowing freely between cells, allowing the plant to regulate which substances enter its vascular system.
Named after botanist Robert Caspary.
