Brighton Rock

British candy stick

Brighton rock is a type of hard candy made in long cylindrical sticks, traditionally sold at the English seaside resort of Brighton.

The candy has letters—usually spelling "Brighton"—running through its entire length, visible when broken or bitten.

By extension, Brighton rock refers to anything with a characteristic that runs consistently through it: Honesty runs through him like Brighton rock.

Also the title of Graham Greene's 1938 crime novel set in the resort town.
