Board of Regents

Campus oversight committee

A Board of Regents is a governing body that oversees a university or state university system.

Members—called regents—set policy, approve budgets, hire presidents, and represent institutional interests.

The term appears most often in American public higher education: The Board of Regents voted to freeze tuition.

Some states use the name for bodies governing other institutions, like museums.
