Aurora Australis
Antarctic sky glow
Aurora Australis is the southern hemisphere's counterpart to the Northern Lights—a natural light display in the sky caused by charged particles from the sun interacting with Earth's atmosphere.
The phenomenon appears as shimmering curtains or waves of green, purple, and red light, visible from Antarctica, southern Australia, New Zealand, and parts of South America.
Also called the Southern Lights.
