Advent candles
December liturgical lights
Advent candles are the four candles arranged in an Advent wreath, lit progressively during the four Sundays before Christmas.
Three are traditionally purple (representing penitence) and one pink (for the third Sunday, marking joy at the approaching celebration).
Some traditions include a fifth white candle lit on Christmas Eve.
We lit the second Advent candle at church this morning.
