90-day wonder

Hastily commissioned lieutenant

A 90-day wonder is military slang for an officer commissioned after a short training program rather than a full academy education.

The term, often derisive, suggests someone thrust into authority without adequate preparation: The enlisted men didn't trust the 90-day wonder fresh out of OCS.

By extension, anyone who gains credentials or expertise suspiciously fast.
