year-old

Unit of age

Year-old combines with a number to describe age: a five-year-old child, my twelve-year-old dog.

As a noun, it refers to someone of that age: The six-year-olds were running wild.

Note the hyphens when used before a noun or as a noun, but not in predicates: She is five years old.
