wowser

Straitlaced moralist

A wowser is a killjoy or puritanical person who disapproves of others' pleasures—drinking, gambling, dancing, or anything deemed immoral.

The term originated in Australia and New Zealand, where it often targeted temperance crusaders and censorious do-gooders: The wowsers want to shut down the pub.

It carries contempt for self-righteous moralizing.
