works of mercy
Acts of kindness
Works of mercy are acts of compassion toward those in need, traditionally enumerated in Catholic teaching as fourteen duties—seven corporal (feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, visiting the sick) and seven spiritual (counseling the doubtful, forgiving offenses).
The phrase appears in religious contexts and charity discourse: The sisters devoted their lives to works of mercy.
