working vacation
Laptop at beach
A working vacation is time away from one's usual workplace that still includes professional obligations—answering emails, attending virtual meetings, or completing projects while nominally on holiday.
The term acknowledges modern work's tendency to follow people everywhere: I'm taking a working vacation in Mexico, but I'll have my laptop.
It can sound like an oxymoron, since vacation traditionally means freedom from work, but for many professionals it's the only kind they take.
