working holiday
Job-funded travel break
A working holiday is a trip that combines employment with travel, typically under a visa arrangement allowing young people to work temporarily in a foreign country while exploring it.
The term also describes a vacation where some work gets done: I took a working holiday to finish my novel at the beach house.
In British usage, a working holiday can mean a day off that isn't really—you're nominally on leave but still handling tasks.
