winter burn
Evergreen frost damage
Winter burn is damage to evergreen plants caused by winter conditions—typically when foliage loses moisture faster than frozen roots can replace it.
Affected leaves turn brown or bronze, usually on the side facing sun or wind.
The term also applies to similar damage from road salt spray or extreme cold.
The boxwoods showed winter burn on their south-facing branches.
