who are you
Stranger's first inquiry
A question asking someone to identify themselves, used literally when encountering a stranger or demanding identification: Who are you, and what are you doing here?
Often carries an edge of challenge or confrontation, implying the person has no right to be present or to say what they've said: Who are you to tell me what to do?
The phrase can also express genuine curiosity about someone's deeper identity or nature.
