went to press

Began being printed

Went to press describes the moment when a publication—newspaper, magazine, book—was sent to be printed.

Before this point, changes can still be made; after it, the content is locked in.

The phrase appears most often in journalism to mark the deadline after which no new information could be included: As we went to press, the election results were still uncertain.

It can also describe when something was finalized more generally.
