welcher
Wager promise breaker
A welcher is someone who fails to pay a debt or honor a bet—a person who reneges on an obligation.
The verb welch (or welsh) means to back out of a commitment, especially a gambling debt: He welched on the bet.
The term is considered offensive by some who see it as a slur against Welsh people, though the connection is disputed.
Also spelled welsher.
