weighted GPA

Honors-adjusted grades

A weighted GPA is a grade point average that assigns extra value to honors, AP, or other advanced courses—typically adding 0.5 or 1.0 to the standard 4.0 scale.

This rewards students for taking harder classes: an A in AP Chemistry might count as 5.0 rather than 4.0.

Weighted GPAs can exceed 4.0, unlike unweighted ones.
