Ridged dirt path
A washboard road is an unpaved road whose surface has developed regular, parallel ridges running across the direction of travel—resembling the corrugated surface of an old-fashioned washboard.
The pattern forms from repeated vehicle traffic over loose gravel or dirt: We rattled along the washboard road at fifteen miles an hour.
The ridges make for a rough, jarring ride.
