viral gastroenteritis
Contagious digestive illness
Viral gastroenteritis is inflammation of the stomach and intestines caused by a virus, producing nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps.
Often called the stomach flu, though it has nothing to do with influenza.
Highly contagious, it spreads through contaminated food, water, or close contact: Half the office came down with viral gastroenteritis after the holiday party.
