viejo

Old in Spanish

Viejo is Spanish for old, used as an adjective or noun.

As a noun, it means old man, but in Latin American Spanish it's also an affectionate term for one's father: Mi viejo me enseñó a manejar (My old man taught me to drive).

The feminine vieja works similarly for mother or old woman.

In casual speech, viejo can address a close friend regardless of age.
