video arcade game
Quarter-munching cabinet pastime
A video arcade game is a coin-operated gaming machine found in public venues like arcades, bars, and movie theater lobbies.
Players insert coins or tokens to play, typically standing at an upright cabinet with a screen, controls, and speakers.
The format dominated gaming culture in the 1970s and 1980s with titles like Pac-Man and Space Invaders, before home consoles largely displaced them: We spent every quarter on video arcade games at the mall.
