Ungalvanized describes metal, usually steel or iron, that hasn't been coated with zinc to protect against rust and corrosion.
Galvanized metal is standard for outdoor use—fencing, gutters, nails—so ungalvanized typically appears when specifying that protection is absent or unnecessary: ungalvanized steel will rust quickly in wet conditions.
