underbar
Baseline horizontal mark
The underbar is the underscore character ( _ ), a horizontal line positioned at the baseline of text.
It appears in email addresses, file names, and programming code where spaces aren't permitted: first_name, my_file_2024.
The term distinguishes this character from the hyphen or dash, which sits higher on the line.
