tutorial mode
Learning the controls
Tutorial mode is a feature in video games that guides new players through basic controls and mechanics, often with simplified gameplay and on-screen prompts.
More broadly, it describes any situation where someone receives extra guidance or reduced expectations while learning: I'm still in tutorial mode at my new job.
The phrase often implies a temporary state before facing full difficulty.
