troths

Sworn marriage promises

Troths is the plural of troth, an archaic word for faith, loyalty, or a solemn pledge.

It survives mainly in set phrases: to plight one's troth is to make a marriage vow, and by my troth was once a common oath.

The word shares roots with truth and true.
