traipsing

Walking without purpose

Traipsing is walking or trudging somewhere, usually with a sense of weariness, aimlessness, or mild complaint about the effort involved: We spent the afternoon traipsing around the mall looking for shoes.

The word often implies covering more ground than feels worthwhile: I'm not traipsing all the way across town for that.
