trade gap
Export-import imbalance
A trade gap is the amount by which a country's imports exceed its exports—another term for trade deficit.
When a nation buys more from abroad than it sells, the difference is the gap: The trade gap widened to $68 billion in March.
Economists and journalists use the term interchangeably with trade deficit.
