through-hikes

End-to-end treks

Through-hikes are end-to-end journeys along long-distance trails, completed in a single continuous effort rather than in sections over multiple trips.

The term applies especially to major trails like the Appalachian Trail or Pacific Crest Trail, where completing the full route takes months: She through-hiked the AT in five months.

Those who attempt them are through-hikers.
