term-limited
Barred from reelection
Term-limited describes an officeholder who cannot seek reelection because they have served the maximum number of terms allowed by law.
A term-limited governor or president must leave office regardless of popularity: The term-limited mayor endorsed his preferred successor.
The word also applies to the office itself: The presidency is term-limited to two four-year terms.
