teasing out
Patiently drawing forth
Teasing out is the process of gently extracting or separating something from a tangled or complex whole.
Originally literal—teasing out knots from hair or fibers from wool—the phrase now usually describes careful intellectual work: She spent hours teasing out the implications of the new policy.
The image is of patient, delicate effort rather than forceful extraction.
