teacher authority
Instructor's legitimate power
Teacher authority is the power a teacher holds over students in educational settings—to direct activities, enforce rules, assign grades, and maintain order.
It derives partly from institutional position and partly from expertise in a subject.
The substitute struggled to establish teacher authority with the rowdy class.
Authority can be undermined when students, parents, or administrators don't support it, and debates persist over how much authority teachers should wield versus how much autonomy students deserve.
