Getting more fuel
Tanking up is filling a vehicle's fuel tank, or by extension, consuming large quantities of liquid—usually alcohol.
Someone tanks up before a long drive or tanks up at the bar before heading home.
The phrase suggests deliberate preparation: We tanked up on coffee before the overnight shift.
In British usage, tanked up often implies drunk: They were properly tanked up by midnight.
