take-home exam
Off-campus testing assignment
A take-home exam is a test students complete outside the classroom, typically with more time than an in-class exam—often a day or a week.
The format usually allows open books and notes, with questions requiring deeper analysis than quick recall: The professor gave us a take-home exam due Monday.
The tradeoff for convenience is usually higher expectations.
