tag team match
Relay-style wrestling combat
A tag team match is a wrestling format where teams of two or more wrestlers compete, with only one member from each team in the ring at a time.
Partners wait outside the ropes and enter by physical contact—the tag—allowing tired or injured wrestlers to swap out.
The format creates drama around near-tags and hot tags, where a fresh partner enters to shift momentum.
The term extends to any cooperative effort where people trade off: We took turns driving—it was a real tag team match.
