stone-deaf

Totally without hearing

Stone-deaf means completely deaf, unable to hear anything at all.

The intensifier stone- emphasizes total, absolute deafness rather than partial hearing loss: My grandfather is stone-deaf without his hearing aids.

Sometimes used figuratively for refusing to listen: The committee was stone-deaf to our complaints.
