stark raving mad
Totally off kilter
Stark raving mad means completely insane—not just eccentric but wildly, demonstrably unhinged.
The phrase emphasizes extreme madness through intensifiers: stark (utterly) and raving (speaking or acting frantically).
Often used hyperbolically: The noise from the construction is driving me stark raving mad.
You'd have to be stark raving mad to swim in that water.
