Waiting for cancellations
A standby line is a queue for people waiting to fill seats that may become available, typically at theaters, concerts, or other events that are sold out or have limited capacity.
Those in a standby line have no guaranteed entry—they wait in hopes of cancellations or no-shows: We got into the taping by waiting in the standby line for three hours.
