standard drinks
Measured beverage servings
A standard drink is a unit measuring alcohol content, not volume—a way to compare across beverages.
In the U.S., one standard drink contains about 14 grams of pure alcohol: roughly a 12-ounce beer, 5-ounce glass of wine, or 1.5-ounce shot of spirits.
The measure varies by country.
Health guidelines use standard drinks to define moderate consumption: The label says two standard drinks per bottle.
