staircasing
Going up steps
Staircasing is the process of gradually increasing ownership in a shared-ownership property by buying additional shares from a housing association.
Each purchase is a step up the ownership ladder: They've been staircasing for years and now own 75%.
The term also describes a stepped or zigzag pattern in graphics, audio waveforms, or data—where smooth curves appear jagged due to low resolution or sampling rates.
