speech pathologists
Communication disorder specialists
Speech pathologists are healthcare professionals who diagnose and treat disorders of communication and swallowing.
They work with people who have difficulty speaking, understanding language, or producing sounds correctly, whether from developmental conditions, stroke, injury, or other causes.
The field covers everything from helping children overcome stuttering to retraining adults who have lost speech after brain damage.
The speech pathologist worked with him for months after his stroke.
Also called speech-language pathologists or, informally, speech therapists.
