sousing
Giving a soaking
Sousing is the act of drenching, immersing, or plunging something into liquid—typically water or a pickling brine.
In cooking, sousing refers to preserving food, especially fish, by steeping it in a seasoned vinegar mixture.
The word also carries an informal sense of getting thoroughly drunk, with a soused person being one who has been steeped, as it were, in alcohol.
The rain gave us all a good sousing.
