snake fence
Interlocking timber boundary
A snake fence is a rustic wooden fence made of split rails stacked in a zigzag pattern, requiring no posts or nails—the angles brace the structure.
Common in early American settlements where timber was plentiful and labor scarce.
Also called a worm fence or zigzag fence.
The old snake fence still marked the property line after two centuries.
