smear artist
Professional character assassin
A smear artist is someone skilled at damaging reputations through malicious publicity—spreading rumors, half-truths, or outright lies to discredit a target.
The term implies deliberate craftmanship in character assassination: The campaign hired a smear artist to dig up dirt on the opponent.
Often used in political contexts, where reputation destruction is treated as a professional specialty.
