sleeper pick
Unexpected winning choice
A sleeper pick is a selection in sports drafts or fantasy leagues that others overlook but the picker believes will outperform expectations.
The metaphor is of something dormant that will wake up and surprise: My sleeper pick this year is the rookie quarterback from Oregon.
The term extends to any undervalued choice expected to prove its worth.
