sleep hallucinations

Bedtime false perceptions

Sleep hallucinations are vivid sensory experiences—usually visual or auditory—that occur while falling asleep (hypnagogic) or waking up (hypnopompic).

They feel real despite happening in the threshold between sleep and wakefulness: I saw a figure standing by my bed, but it was just a sleep hallucination.

Common and usually harmless, though more frequent with sleep deprivation or disorders like narcolepsy.
