A side vent is a vertical slit in the back of a jacket or coat, positioned at the sides rather than center back.
Most suit jackets have either a single center vent, two side vents, or no vents at all.
Side vents allow easier movement and keep the jacket from bunching when you sit or put your hands in your pockets: He prefers side vents for a cleaner look when seated.
