side-stick
Pilot's hand control
A side-stick is a joystick mounted beside the pilot's seat rather than between the knees, used to control aircraft in modern fly-by-wire cockpits.
Airbus pioneered the design in commercial aviation: The captain gripped the side-stick as turbulence hit.
Side-sticks save cockpit space and allow for larger instrument displays.
